Since opening for business in May 2006 we have been extremely blessed. Sharon has a hands on style of running the business and her warm hospitality has endeared herself to many guests who keep returning to visit our small corner of Africa. Many guests have enriched our lives and we trust that we have also been able to leave a small investment in theirs.
The garden was sparse and bleak when we first bought the property, and the current indigenous growth is a work in progress as we try to attract a variety of birds, insects and reptiles to establish natural habitats ......still much work to be done!
We are extremely fortunate in our location. There are not many suburban B&B's which are situated so close and within short walking distance of world class mountain bike/trail running trails, a state of the art Virgin Active gym, a small viby shopping centre overlooking a clear stream, safe walking in the leafy suburbs or within the Cascades Mountain Bike Park.
Guests staying at Gecko Hill have an ideal, central base to explore the beautiful province of KwaZulu-Natal. A rich diversity of experiences within an hour to four hours drive includes the majestic Drakensberg Mountains, wilderness experiences in Zululand and the Maputoland coast, battlefields of the Anglo-Zulu War and South African War, golden beaches, Zulu culture to name but a few items to add to your itinerary. Your host may be available to guide you to certain experiences should he be available.
Although not a registered guide, he has many years experience guiding groups and has a passion for the battlefields and wild places. All tours are in his private capacity and subject to availability.
